The underground construction of Shanghai Micro LED chip project is completed

China Construction First Engineering Bureau Southwest Company reported on June 2 that recently, the Shanghai Digital Light Source Chip Advanced Packaging and Testing Base Project completed the construction of the positive and negative zero structures and the first hoisting of the prefabricated beams. The underground construction phase of the project has basically ended and entered the construction phase of the above-ground main structure.

The project is located in the Lingang New Area of Shanghai Free Trade Zone, with a total construction area of approximately 36,000 square meters. The construction includes 8 individual buildings including a R&D center, production plants and supporting warehouses.

According to the plan, after the project is completed, an industrial chain collaboration system covering chip design, packaging, testing, manufacturing, and mass production applications will be formed. It is expected to have an annual production capacity of 1.2 million Micro LED light source chips and 600,000 sets of car light modules.

Driven by the demand for automotive lighting, optical communications and other applications, the industrialization process of Micro LED light source chips continues to advance. Recently, related industrial chains have also ushered in a number of cooperation developments.

In April, Xingyu reached strategic cooperation with Ouye and Jingneng to jointly develop iVISION smart headlights. The headlight integrates the world's first dedicated SoC chip for car lights and the first domestic Micro LED light source chip, aiming to improve algorithm performance and light efficiency.

In May, Qianzhao Optoelectronics and Jinghe Optoelectronics signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement to deploy Micro LED light-emitting chips in scenarios such as automotive lighting and optical interconnection, focusing on promoting technology adaptation and supply chain collaboration capabilities.

In addition, in the emerging field of Micro LED optical interconnection technology, in March this year, Zhaochi disclosed that its Micro LED light source chip for Micro LED optical interconnection CPO technology has successfully completed the research and development work and is currently in the sample verification and testing stage.
