2.7 billion, Hubei Micro OLED production line officially lights up

On June 4, the lighting ceremony of Xitai Intelligent Technology’s Micro OLED silicon-based micro-display production line was held in Chuangchuang Optoelectronics Industrial Park, Anlu City, Hubei Province.

The total investment in this production line is 2.7 billion yuan. In the first phase of the project, an 8-inch silicon-based micro-display production line was built, and in the second phase, a 12-inch high-end production line is planned to be built.

Xitai Technology is one of the earliest companies in China to engage in the research, development and manufacturing of Micro OLED microdisplays.

After 8 years of technology accumulation, Xita Technology has completed the development from laboratory research and development to 8-inch pilot test and then to 12-inch mass production line. In terms of production line layout, Xitai Technology has built a layout of one 8-inch + two 12-inch lines.

In June 2024, Xitai Technology's first 12-inch production line in Wuhu was fully connected, and the first product was successfully lit. The total investment in the project was 6 billion yuan, and the monthly production capacity of the first phase was 6,000 wafers.

In May 2026, the main structure of Xitai Technology’s second 12-inch Micro OLED microdisplay industrial park project in Nanchong was capped and the total project volume has exceeded 60%. The project has a total investment of 2.5 billion yuan and is expected to be mass-produced in Q2 2027. The project has a designed monthly production capacity of 6,000 wafers.

In April 2026, Xitai Technology's global IC R&D center and display module project started construction in Meishan, Sichuan, with a total investment of over 1.6 billion yuan. In the future, it will have an annual output of 10 million display modules and a production capacity of 3 million OEM complete machines. After completion, Xitai Technology will form a full industry chain of chips-devices-modules-complete machines.

In terms of capital, the company will complete Series B financing of 150 million yuan in 2025 and receive support from policy financial instruments. At the technical level, Xitai Technology has applied for a total of 424 micro-display patents. The products cover 0.23 to 1.35 inches, adapt to a variety of optical solutions, and are widely used in near-eye display devices such as AR/VR.

In 2026, domestic Micro OLED production capacity construction is accelerating

Micro OLED is an OLED display device that uses monocrystalline silicon as the driving backplane. The driver chip is integrated in the silicon-based backplane. The pixel size is only 1/10 of traditional devices, and can achieve ultra-high definition of more than 4,000 pixels per inch.

As the AR glasses and viewing glasses market continues to gain popularity, and Micro OLED has become one of the key AR glasses micro-display technologies, the demand for Micro OLED continues to increase.

Previously, TrendForce Consulting predicted that the demand for OLEDoS microdisplays for near-eye display devices such as AR, VR, and MR is expected to reach 31.5 million pieces in 2030, with a compound growth rate of 81% from 2025 to 2030.

Faced with the continued growth in demand for near-eye displays in the future, more domestic companies have begun to enter the Micro OLED industry, promote the construction of related production capacity, and gradually transfer the global Micro OLED industry to China.

In recent years, domestic companies such as Hongxi Technology, Xinshijia, Ruixian Technology, Shiya Technology, Yunguang Technology, and Xitai Technology have continued to accelerate the construction of Micro OLED production capacity to meet the growing market demand for AR glasses in the future.

In December last year, Hongxi Technology’s 12-inch Micro OLED project in Chuzhou, Anhui Province was officially capped. The project has an investment of 2 billion yuan and will be able to produce 72,000 12-inch wafers annually after reaching full capacity, achieving an annual output value of 3 billion yuan.

In February this year, media reported that Hongxi Technology purchased nearly 100 million yuan of evaporation equipment for the mass production of Micro OLED displays from the semiconductor equipment company Sunic System.

In terms of Xinshijia, in December last year, Xinshijia invested 1.5 billion yuan in its 12-inch Micro OLED production line. The project plans to have a monthly production capacity of 4,000 wafers, and the products are mainly targeted at AR/VR/MR applications.

In January this year, Xinshijia Technology announced the completion of the clean workshop decoration project of its K3 factory, and the entry of the first production equipment, marking that Jiangxi Xinshijia has the large-scale manufacturing capabilities of high-end OLED modules. The project has a total investment of 1 billion yuan. The first phase plans to produce 12 million sets of flexible OLED modules per year, equipped with 2 fully automatic production lines; the second phase will add an annual output of 2.5 million sets of Micro OLED modules.

In the same month, the main project of Xinshijia's Sichuan project was capped, focusing on the two product lines of flexible OLED and Micro OLED high-definition display modules, targeting high-end smart wearables, vehicle-mounted displays, AR/VR and other fields.

Ruixian Technology started construction of a Micro OLED project in Changsha in February this year. The project has a total investment of 3 billion yuan. It is positioned in the R&D and manufacturing of silicon-based OLED micro display chips. It has built two 12-inch Micro OLED production lines with a total production capacity of 180,000 wafers per year, and its products cover 0.1 to 1.3 inches. The project is scheduled to be put into production in 2027.

Yunguang Technology also started the construction of a 12-inch ultra-high-definition silicon-based OLED microdisplay production base in February this year. The total investment in the project is approximately 1.2 billion yuan, with a planned construction area of approximately 40,000 square meters. It is planned to be completed and put into production in 2027.

After the project is completed, it will achieve large-scale production of silicon-based micro-display panels from 0.13 inches to 1.32 inches, with a planned annual production capacity of approximately 60,000 12-inch wafers. The equivalent annual output is about 80 million pieces of 0.13-inch microdisplays and about 4 million pieces of 1.32-inch microdisplays.

Shiya Technology was officially listed in March this year, raising 2.015 billion yuan, of which approximately 1.609 billion yuan was used for the "ultra-high-resolution silicon-based OLED micro-display device production line expansion project", which will effectively expand the company's 12-inch silicon-based OLED display production capacity to 10.8 million screens.

In addition, 406 million yuan was raised to invest in the "R&D Center Construction Project", which aims to upgrade new display technologies such as silicon-based OLED micro-display driver chips and micro-displays.

Summary

With the intensive construction of many domestic Micro OLED production lines, the collective rise of Chinese companies is injecting new vitality into Micro OLED technology. With the development of the AR glasses market, the next few years will be a golden window period for Micro OLED to rapidly increase its penetration into the micro-display field. As production lines reach capacity and supply chains continue to improve, Chinese companies are expected to occupy a more important position in the global micro-display industry, and the golden age of domestic Micro OLED is accelerating.
